Gifts

The best gift you could give us would be to attend our wedding.  Really, that’s it.  There is no need to get us anything.

If you’d really like to get us something in honor of the wedding, consider making a donation to a cause important to us.  Click here for the list.

If you’d really, really like to get us something physical, we have created a gift registry.  Click here for more information.

Seven good causes

This is a list of seven causes important to Sam and Neala, in alphabetical order.  Please let us know if you have made a donation so we can thank you.

1) Banff Yoho Kootenay National Parks Search and Rescue Training Programs http://www.pc.gc.ca/docs/pc/guide/securite-safety/safety-securite06_e.asp
Sam and Neala are intensely grateful to the expert rescue provided to Sam by the courageous team of park wardens, led by Percy Woods, on the night of December 2, 2005.  Without their exceptional training and teamwork, Sam is certain he would not be able to walk down the aisle.  Donations to: Mountain Safety Programs, Banff Yoho Kootenay National Parks/ Care of Percy Woods, Specialist / Box 213 / Lake Louise, AB T0L 1E0 / Canada.

2) Human Rights Campaign
http://www.hrc.org/
Neala and Sam believe in marriage equality: everyone who wants to commit to marriage should be able to legally do so.

3) Michael K. Copass Fund at Harborview Medical Center
Over the years this fund has helped a multitude of patients and their families who are cared for by the Harborview Emergency Department and lack resources for essential needs in a time of crisis: lodging, bus/taxi vouchers, hot meals, toiletries and hygiene materials.  Donations to: The M. K. Copass Fund / Care of Katrina Jordan / Harborview Medical Center / 325 9th Ave, Box 359702 / Seattle, WA 98104.

4) Planned Parenthood
http://www.plannedparenthood.org/
Neala and Sam believe that every child should be a wanted child and people should have information about their reproductive health and access to reproductive health care.

5) Protect Bristol Bay, Alaska
http://www.savebristolbay.org
http://www.renewableresourcescoalition.org/index.htm

A very large open-pit mine has been proposed for Bristol Bay, Alaska, where Neala studies sockeye salmon as part of her PhD work.  Join Neala and Sam, along with many scientists, fishermen, politicians, conservationalists, jewelers, and others, who believe it too risky to put such a mine near one of the largest and most diverse sockeye salmon fisheries in the world.  For more information, please see this New York Times article and video: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/22/us/politics/22mining.html?_r=1

6) Seattle/King County Coalition for the Homeless
http://www.homelessinfo.org/homeless.html
This organization works to keep homeless people active in their role as citizens: people who vote and whose children have access to school supplies and good shoes.  SKCCH is a big supporter of housing first principles (http://www.desc.org/documents/DESC_Housing_First_Principles.pdf) and they organize the One Night Count of people who are homeless in King County.  Sam and Neala had the honor of participating in the count last year and were truly impressed with the scale of organization upon which it relies.

7) The Charlotte and Tony Kuehn Memorial Scholarship in Film and Stage Performance
This scholarship at the University of Idaho honors the memory of Sam’s maternal grandparents and their lifelong interest in the development of good performers for motion pictures and all levels of live theatre.  Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a BFA or MFA in the Department of Theatre and Film in the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences.  To donate online, go to https://www.sites.uidaho.edu/gifts/, choose “College of Letters and Social Sciences, Department of Theater and Film,” insert the amount of the donation, click on “next” and in the box labeled “Special Instructions,” and type “for The Charlotte and Tony Kuehn Memorial Scholarship.”
